Apple Partners with Issey Miyake to Launch Quirky iPhone Pocket

12

Apple has ventured into a unique collaboration with renowned Japanese fashion house Issey Miyake, unveiling the iPhone Pocket : a 3D-knitted bag designed specifically for iPhones (and other small items). This unexpected partnership merges technology and high fashion in an unconventional way.

Known for its avant-garde designs, often featuring intricately pleated fabrics, Issey Miyake is synonymous with innovative textiles. The company was founded by the late Japanese designer, Issey Miyake, who also famously designed Steve Jobs’ signature black turtleneck.

Apple highlights that the iPhone Pocket embodies the essence of Issey Miyake’s iconic pleats. The bag’s 3D-knitted material boasts impressive stretchiness. This unique construction allows users to partially peek at their iPhone display without removing it from the pocket, enabling quick notification checks on the go.

Flexible Functionality

The iPhone Pocket is designed for versatile carrying options. Wear it like a handbag, sling it across your body, or attach it to an existing bag — its adaptability caters to different preferences and situations.

Two strap variations are available: a shorter strap offered in eight color choices, and a longer strap with three color options.

A Luxury Staple With A Price Tag To Match

While the iPhone Pocket’s construction appears thoughtfully crafted with high-quality ribbed knit fabric, surpassing the typical sock material, its price point might raise eyebrows. At $149.95 for the shorter strap and $229.95 for the longer one, it undeniably falls into the luxury accessory category. This pricing inevitably begs the question: will consumers find this innovative concept worth the significant investment?

It wouldn’t be surprising to see DIY enthusiasts attempt recreating the design at a fraction of the cost, given the seemingly straightforward construction and readily available materials.

The iPhone Pocket launches on November 24th in select Apple Stores and online at Apple.com in various international markets including France, Greater China, Italy, Japan, Singapore, South Korea, the UK, and the US.
